Now of course, you may argue that 3 major releases a year are too much and that they should pack their features a bit more, but this is completely irrelevant because if you're paying for, say, 2017.2, it doesn't matter if they add new features in 2017.3 or 2018.1, because they are not what you are paying for, as the software you bought is provided as is. 2017.3 just means "Third major version in 2017", but it does not in any way affect the size of the change log. There is technically no difference between a 2017.2 -> 2017.3 and a 2017.3 -> 2018.1 version increase, it's just how they version stuff. I believe that I won't get a permanent licence for 2017.3, but that is an actual major upgrade, so that seems reasonable.ĮDIT: Saw your edit after I posted my comment, and I can see your confusion. I bought a JetBrains Toolbox subscription when IDEA 2017.2.2 was the current version, and I still have a permanent licence for the current version (which is 2017.2.6, I think?), so no. Having to juggle CLion (C++/Kotlin Native), Intellij IDEA (Java/Kotlin), GoLand (Go), WebStorm (JS/Kotlin JS), and Rider (C#) is a pain in the ass, especially when Intellij IDEA has support for all of them but is unable to perform certain tasks (Like debug native executables) for arbitrary reasons.

The issue I have as a user is this desire to split that functionality across a dozen different individual IDEs that share 99.99% of the same functionality, but each have one exclusive feature you need to use for that language or ecosystem.

That in itself is not unpalatable to me, if they provide IDE support on par with Java that adds tremendous value over free tools like VS (Code) and I am more than willing to pay for it.
GOLAND 2017 FOR MAC LICENSE
Jetbrains wants its users to pay an additional license fee for each language they want to use. I work in many languages as part of my work and personal endeavors, and the ability to add language support via plugin to a single IDE had been a godsend. Jetbrain's core IDE platform is top notch, but the fragmentation of their end products is getting out of hand, and the user experience is suffering.

Mission-critical tools such as rest-runner, coverage tool, full-featured debugger and version control integration are at hand - no plugin hustle included. Together, powerful static code analysis and ergonomic design make development not only productive but also an enjoyable experience. The IDE analyzes your code, looking for connections between symbols, to provide code completion, quick navigation, clever error analysis, formatting, and refactorings. The new IDE extends the IntelliJ platform with the coding assistance and tool integrations specific for the Go language.

GoLand is a new commercial IDE by JetBrains aimed at providing an ergonomic environment for Go development.
